Community-Led.
Crisis-Ready.

Grassroots medical support for Fort Collins. Trained by the people, for the people.

Our Movement

The Fort Collins Street Medics exists to provide free, accessible, and community-centered medical mutual aid in Fort Collins and beyond. We train and equip community members with essential first aid, emergency response, and street medicine skills so people can care for one another in moments of crisis and in meeting everyday medical needs.

We provide free medical training, supplies, and direct medical support to individuals, mutual aid distributions, grassroots organizations, and community-led efforts. We offer street medic support for social justice actions and movements we see bettering our community, as we prioritizing harm reduction, collective safety, and community autonomy.

Through education, preparedness, and solidarity, we work to build resilient, well-cared-for communities capable of responding to emergencies independently, protecting one another, and sustaining movements for justice and liberation.

The People’s Free Clinic is a community-focused health initiative offering free, accessible care to those in need. No insurance needed. All services are free. No registration required. No appointment needed.

The People’s Free Clinic operates every third Sunday of the month from 1-4 PM at FoCo Cafe and serves patients on a first-come, first-served basis.

Services may vary, but typically include: general wound care, basic medical assessment, foot care, and assistance with Medicaid enrollment and connecting patients to local resources. The clinic also provides education on diabetic management and prevention, as well as HIV and hepatitis prevention. A unique “brown bag” medication reconciliation service allows patients to bring in all of their medications for a pharmacist to review for potential drug interactions, duplicate therapies, expired prescriptions, and other safety concerns. In addition, patients can receive guidance on over-the-counter medications and smoking cessation support.

FAQ

Who are Fort Collins Street Medics?
The Fort Collins Street Medics is a volunteer-based, community-led collective providing free medical mutual aid in Fort Collins and surrounding areas. We are individuals, neighbors, and community members focused on providing free medical training, direct care, harm reduction, mutual aid, and accessible community care for all.
What does "street medic" mean?
Street medics are trained community members who provide first aid, emergency response, and basic medical care outside of traditional healthcare settings. This includes protests, mutual aid distributions, community events, and everyday situations where medical care may be inaccessible.
What kinds of services do you provide?
We offer:
  • Free medical and first aid training (CPR, Stop the Bleed, wound care, overdose response, etc.)
  • Free medical supplies
  • Free support for mutual aid distributions, social justice actions and demonstrations, and community events
Do I need medical experience to get involved or attend trainings?
No prior medical experience is required. Our trainings are designed for community members of all backgrounds and skill levels. We believe everyone can learn life-saving skills and care for one another.
Are your trainings certified?
Our trainings focus on practical, community-based medical skills rather than formal certification. Our trainings may align with recognized practices (such as CPR or Stop the Bleed), but our primary goal is accessibility, preparedness, and mutual aid - not credentialing.
Can minors take your classes or join the Fort Collins Street Medics?
Due to the nature of our organization, the legal liability of minors’ inability to consent in emergency situations requiring rapid response, the physical risk, and the traumatizing experiences medics encounter and train for, we do not allow minors to attend our classes or serve as Street Medics for event support.
Who do you serve?
We serve anyone in the community who needs support, with a focus on people who face barriers to traditional healthcare. This includes unhoused neighbors, activists, organizers, mutual aid groups, and community members seeking accessible medical education and care.
Do you provide care at protests or actions?
Yes. We provide street medic support for social justice actions when requested and when we have capacity. Our role is to promote safety, provide medical care, and support community autonomy.
Are you a non-profit organization?

No. The Fort Collins Street Medics are not a registered non-profit. We operate as a grassroots, volunteer-run mutual aid collective. This allows us to remain flexible, community-accountable, and responsive to real needs without the restrictions, bureaucracy, or gatekeeping often associated with nonprofit structures.

We believe care should be shared freely, not mediated through institutions. Our work is guided by mutual aid, solidarity, and trust in community power rather than funding models or formal status.

How can I or my group request medic support?
You can reach out to us via email, Facebook, or Instagram to request support for individual care, mutual aid distributions (“distros”), trainings, or actions. Please provide as much advance notice and detail as possible so we can assess capacity. Requests for event support made less than 6 weeks prior to an event date, we are likely unable to accommodate. Please note that we are currently booking trainings 3-6 months out, and we do not offer classes for businesses or private personal groups (though you may sign up individuals for our classes open to the public).
What is a mutual aid “distro”?
“Distro” is short for “redistribution”. A distro is a free community event where we redistribute items, such as food, clothing, hygiene goods, and harm reduction supplies, to those who need them; as well as provide skill shares such as clothing mending, medical care, bike repair, and whatever services community members can offer. Distros vary in offerings, but all are welcome to bring what they can, and take what they need. No questions asked. In Fort Collins, mutual aid distros are run by groups such as Clothe The People, FoCo Food Not Bombs, and Scrimshaw Community Mealshare.
How can I get involved or volunteer?
You can get involved by attending a training, helping with outreach, or becoming a street medic. To work with us at events, we require members to complete at least one of our trainings or have prior medical experience. Follow us on Instagram or Facebook to learn about upcoming trainings and ways to plug in.
How are the Fort Collins Street Medics funded?
We operate through mutual aid, donations, and community support. No one is charged for services, and all resources go directly toward supplies, trainings, and community care.
How can I support the Fort Collins Street Medics?
You can support us by:
  • Donating medical supplies
  • Sharing our posts and trainings
  • Attending events and learning life-saving medical skills
  • Connecting us with mutual aid groups or community needs
